“Google searches for “authentic” will take you down a rabbit hole of racing results. My favorite aspect about Authentic was that he became the first horse since American Pharaoh to win both the Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Kentucky Derby in the same calendar year.
Don’t worry, the National Historic Landmark plaques were not damaged during the engraving that forms the paintings’ background.
The procedure seems to be simpler in theory, but the first difficulty is that Churchill Downs plaque is 6 feet above the ground, unlike most historic landmarks. The second difficulty is that the greatest instrument for getting an engraving is not charcoal or artist crayons. Also, when on a ladder trying to be artistically clever, acquire an engraving, and act like you belong, the wind is not your friend.”
